Hello. As most of you know, there has been much publicity lately regarding Leo's case and the wrongful conviction. You can follow updates here, of course; and also at this new website: www.freeleoschofield.com.
We have requested - via petition - that the State Attorney in Polk County transfer his case to a conviction review unit for an independent review. That hasn't happened... yet. In the meantime, Leo has a parole hearing to be scheduled sometime late March or April.
His current parole date is June 24, 2023. The commissioners can keep that date, suspend it, move it, or whatever else they choose to do.
I am in the process of putting together his "parole packet", which is basically a lengthy document outlining his prison record, his accomplishments, his plan for what he wants to do, where he wants to live when he is paroled, and letters from his supporters requesting that they parole him at or before his project parole release date (6/24/23). This document is then sent to the parole commissioners for their review prior to his hearing. I'd like to have this completed by March 1, 2023.
